Both the federal government and the State of Missouri offers various certifications. Obtaining a certification can give a business a competitive advantage in being awarded either a prime contract or as a subcontractor on a government contract.
In this session, we will discuss the available state and federal certifications. At the federal level these small business certifications include being a veteran owned business, minority owned business (including 8(a)), woman owned business, and the HUBZone certification. Additionally, we will discuss the state of Missouri certifications including Woman Business Enterprise, Minority Business Enterprise, Service Disabled Veteran Enterprise, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise including Airport Concessionaire.
We will discuss the various application processes and requirements. This discussion will include the required steps and ownership requirements/control including the related paperwork.

Allen Waldo has been working with the Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center (now APEX) since 2014 in the Springfield Office (SW Missouri). He has a master’s certificate in government contracting from George Washington University. He holds a Certified Procurement Professional (CPP) certificate from the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (APTAC) (his national organization).
