Rusted Plowshare Farm New Growth Food Systems program

Beginning Farmers Project

We provide education and training, one-on-one coaching, and mentorship opportunities for farmers and ranchers with less than 10 years of experience. We are committed to building new farms as a way to build strong communities and resilient local and regional food systems. Scholarships are also available to support farmers and ranchers in taking advantage of other available resources. On-farm training includes climate smart agricultural practices and visits to farms with experience.

New Growth provides farm and food entrepreneurs with business counseling, as well as assistance securing other resources, such as funding and marketing partners. We do this as part of the Heartland Regional Food Business Center, serving Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and northwest Arkansas.

The Heartland Center is one of 12 USDA-supported regional food business centers across the country. Our aim is to build local and regional food businesses and market linkages for a more robust and resilient food supply.
